Location: Apalchand Forest, Baikanthapur Forest Division
Date: November 20, 2024
In mid-November 2024, a lone wild elephant with visible and severe injuries was spotted in the Apalchand Forest under the Baikanthapur Forest Division. The elephant had significant wounds on its tail and back and was observed frequently immersing itself in water and mud—likely to relieve discomfort and manage the pain.

Recognizing the critical nature of the injuries, the Forest Department quickly initiated field-level action. The animal’s movements were tracked closely, and a treatment plan was implemented, with daily monitoring to assess its condition and adjust medical support as needed.
Special recognition is extended to the Kathambari Quick Response Team (QRT) of the Nature and Wildlife Association (NWA) for their consistent presence and active support throughout the process. Their coordination with forest officials has played a key role in ensuring the elephant received timely care in a minimally intrusive manner.

As of now, the elephant’s health is gradually improving, and visible signs of healing have been noted. The case reflects the effectiveness of collaborative action between local teams and forest authorities in addressing urgent wildlife health situations.
