DONATION

ELEPHANTS: THE ECOSYSTEM ENGINEERS

Your donation helps protect elephants, restore habitats, and reduce human-wildlife conflict.

Elephants play a pivotal role in maintaining biodiversity, which generates a healthy ecosystem. They graze a large amount of vegetation, involving various plant species, and prevent any one species from dominating the area, thereby maintaining a balance in the vegetation composition. But the increasing human settlements result in the shrinkage of elephant habitat, and bring them closer to human residential areas. This may increase the chances of human-elephant conflicts and result in crop depredation, casualties, and property destruction.

Why Choose to Donate for NWA ?

Habitat Restoration

NWA is anticipated to raise funds for the welfare of elephants and humans too. NWA is investing in protecting the existing habitats and restoring degraded areas for the large volumetric consumption ratio of elephants.

Monetary Compensation

NWA facilitates monetary compensation to the families having casualties, crop or property damages and injuries during conflict.

Veterinary Care

NWA provides medical treatment with intensive veterinary care to the sick and injured elephants. NWA rendered treatment aid for sick female wild elephant diagnosed with Trypanosoma in Kurseong Division with Normal Saline, Ringer’s Lactate and associated medicines.

Research and Development

NWA requires research funding to address the threat to the elephant population and their habitat. Extensive research is required to understand the nutritional profile of their feeding preferences and designing of forest dynamics under long-term monitoring framework.

Conflict Mitigation

A huge amount of investment is required for the conflict mitigation management, such as providing patrolling vehicles for monitoring elephant movements, installation of CCTV cameras in prime elephant corridors, and supply of various mitigation tools to the volunteers of Quick Response Team (QRT), including walkie-talkies, torch, head-lamps, etc.
