Date: February 23, 2025 and March 2, 2025
Location:
Nirpani & Mechi Riverside

After the cropping season, the Quick Response Teams (QRT) of the Nature and Wildlife Association (NWA) from different villages under the Kurseong Forest Division came together for a team bonding activity and interaction session.

Held at Nirpani and later at the Mechi riverside, the event brought together over 120 members from QRT units of Raitola, Magartola, Gurungtola, Toribari, Aldangi, Mirgangla, Nehaljote, and Kuta Jote.

These teams had been actively involved during the cropping season, taking measures to reduce human-elephant conflict (HEC), staying alert in the field, and creating awareness at the local level.

The purpose of this gathering was to build coordination, exchange experiences, and acknowledge the season’s work. The day included:

  • A community lunch
  • Team interaction and discussions
  • Informal games and group activities
  • Riverbed cleanup post-program

The Mechi river, which marks the boundary between India and Nepal, provided a relevant backdrop for this field-based activity. It served as a space for cross-village coordination and interaction, essential for strengthening future mitigation efforts.

Such team activities help maintain readiness on the ground while ensuring continued cooperation between local QRTs.
