With the ever-expanding human population, the quality and quantity of wildlife habitats are rapidly shrinking. This has led to an alarming rise in Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC), especially in the fringe areas where communities and wildlife share a fragile boundary. The challenge becomes even more critical during paddy and maize seasons, when crop damage and conflicts increase many folds.
We salute the tireless and courageous efforts of our forest personnel, who work relentlessly—often in difficult and dangerous conditions—to mitigate conflict and protect both people and wildlife.
On the occasion of Forest Martyr’s Day, 11th September 2021, NWA India stood in solidarity with these frontline heroes. We reinforced the Bagdogra Range and Taipu Wildlife Squad under Kurseong Division by providing essential field equipment such as search lights and headlights to support their night patrols and rescue operations.

As part of our ongoing “Lights for Life” campaign, we also distributed more search lights to fringe-dwelling communities in existing HWC-prone areas, especially under the Tukuriajhar Range, enabling them to stay vigilant and safe during elephant movement hours.
We believe that meaningful change comes through continued collaboration. Just like last year, we remain committed to walking this path together, standing by the Forest Department and local communities to take one more step toward harmonious coexistence in our shared landscapes.
Together, we can and will make a difference.
