Date: March 18, 2020
We’re excited to share that after months of hard work, testing, and feedback from the ground, the HEC Alert App by NWA is finally ready for use!
This mobile app is designed to support efforts in managing Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC) — making it easier for communities, forest teams, and NGOs to stay informed and respond quickly.
What does the app do?
With HEC Alert by NWA, registered users can:
- Report elephant sightings in real time
- Receive alerts when elephants are sighted within a 25 km radius
- In the future, share important conflict data with NGOs, forest departments, and researchers to support better planning and protection
This app is part of our mission to create a safer space for both people and elephants in areas where their paths cross.
Where is it available?
Right now, HEC Alert is available for use in India and Thailand, starting from March 18. More countries will be added soon.
How to get started?
- Go to the Google Play Store
- Search for: “HEC app by NWA”
- Download and install the app
- Register with your name and number
- Enable location access on your phone
- Start reporting elephant sightings in your area
This app is just one more step in bringing technology, local knowledge, and conservation together. With your support, we can reduce conflict and keep both people and elephants safe.
