Primary Response Teams (PRTs) are community-based volunteer groups established and trained by NWA to support Human-Elephant Conflict (HEC) mitigation efforts in conflict-prone landscapes. Comprising local residents with firsthand knowledge of their areas, these teams act as the first line of response during elephant movement and conflict situations, working in close coordination with the Forest Department and its Quick Response Teams.
PRT members assist in monitoring elephant movement, disseminating early warnings to communities, supporting crowd management, promoting safe conflict mitigation practices, and helping reduce risks to both people and wildlife. By strengthening local preparedness and community participation, the PRT model plays a vital role in fostering coexistence and ensuring a more effective and timely response to Human-Elephant Conflict situations.
